Dear Guest,

Welcome to Holiday Inn Express San Juan! We look forward to making your stay with us memorable. We'd like to share some important information that could impact your stay.

In Puerto Rico, as in many tropical seaside locations we have Sandflies, also known as Midges or No See Ums. These tiny, almost invisible insects inhabit beaches and coastal areas. Their bites, which may be plentiful and may not be perceived at the moment, can cause painful, itchy bumps or blisters which may be felt many hours or even days after the initial bite. This is a very common occurrence in the Caribbean as well as in our beaches and coastal areas in San Juan. The Condado area is flanked by both the beach and the Condado Lagoon, therefore, these insects are prevalent here and you may experience their bites. Since the effects of these bites are often not felt until the day after, many people are erroneously prone to assume they were bitten overnight by bedbugs.

We strongly recommend that while enjoying the beach or strolling through Condado you take appropriate precautions like using insect repellent and/or proper attire to protect arms, legs and ankles. Insect repellent is available for purchase in our Grab & Go open 24 hours.

Though these insect bites are generally not hazardous, they are very bothersome. Should you experience sandfly bites, products such as After Bite, antihistamine lotions (like Benadryl), or cortisone-based creams can provide relief. Some of these products are available at our Grab & Go. It is our mission to help you have a wonderful stay and get the most out of your days with us. We hope this information proves helpful.
